Buying the best exercise equipment for home

buying home exercise equipmentWhen it comes to buying exercise equipment for working out at home there some things you should be aware of before you decide on making a purchase.

There are many types of fitness machines you can choose, some work better than others and not all will fit your needs.

First of all, what’s your spending budget. It’s true that all types of exercise machines have models ranging from $100 to over $2000 in price but a $100 dollar rower is not the same with $100 elliptical.

If you’re just starting out I would go for something in the $600 to $1200 range. The quality is there but it’s not that expensive.

There are many places where you can buy exercise equipment online. My personal favorite is Amazon.com because they have a wide selection of machines and there are also the customer reviews which is something I pay close attention to.

Speaking of online reviews for fitness machines, I also use www.niugu8.com, they’ve got a lot of reviews and price comparison charts for home fitness machines.

If you’ve got the budget part figured out, next thing is what type of machine will you buy. You’ve got treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, rowers, steppers, etc.

This depends on your personal preferance and your health and fitness levels. For instance if you have bad joints a treadmill would only cause you pain when working out and you would probably use the machine once or twice before you give up.

When it comes to low impact cardio workouts nothing beats rowing machines. They’re the best indoor fitness machines for you if you don’t want to put too much pressure on your knees and hips but still get a decently challenging workout.

Also you should go for a exercise machine that can target more muscle groups. You don’t want something that just works the legs or the upper body. It doesn’t have to be a full body workout, but at least it should target lower and upper body muscle groups during the exercises.

Another thing, make sure the room in which you’re gonna workout has enough space for the fitness machine.

There are many machines that fold so that they don’t take up too much space when you’re not working out. Rowers are long but most of them have a foldable frame so you can store them somewhere out of your way.

You may think that the technology on the machine is not that important but it actually is. It keeps you motivated and you don’t get bored from exercising.

For example, an elliptical machine is an amazing piece of home exercise equipment because of the main console which has so many workout programs, goal setting and tracking features which like I said gets you pumped up to workout daily or at least a couple of times a week.

Brand is important aswell. Make sure the brand you buy from has a great warranty policy because sometimes the machines break and you don’t want to wait around for months before the manufacturer decides to take care of your problem. Look at the reviews online and you’ll be able to tell which are manufacturers are serious about their products and their customers.

3 Tips on How To Stop Your Dog From Jumping on You

Want to teach your dog how to greet you and other people politely instead of constantly jumping on you. In this short but practical guide I’m going to give you 4 tips which I’ve used with my daughter’s Golden Retriever puppy to make him stop jumping on people.

dog jumpingWhat you have to understand though is that jumping on you and being overly execited is in most dog’s nature. That’s why we love them so much, because they’re always happy to sees us and they show that. But sometimes it’s not that fun when your dog or someone else’s dog jumps on you, especially if his paws are dirty. Every have that happen to you?

These are just 4 tips, but there are other ways you can stop your dog from jumping. My advice is to look at videos and other online resources for dog training. What I can recommend is that you check out To Raise A Dog, a dog training website with detailed guides on training methods for dogs of all sizes and shapes.

#1 Don’t encourage jumping

If your dog comes and jumps on you, your first instinct is to play with him, cuddle him. He will see that as a reward for jumping, and the behaviour will continue.

I know it’s hard as a dog owner to ignore your dog when he wants your affection and your attention. But when it comes to jumping, totally ignoring your pet is the first step in getting rid of this type of behavior.

#2 Be consistent

Teaching your dog to stop jumping when he’s greeting you is just as every other dog training activity and results will now show on the first day.

Successful dog training is all about being consisten in your actions and commands. Or else your dog will only be confused, and he won’t know what it is exactly you’re wanting him to do.

Maintain the no reward routine for every person your dog jumps on, everytime.

#3 If ignoring doesn’t work use the leash

If you’ve tried ignoring your dog when he jumps for some time now and he’s still not affected by your no reward behavior, it’s probably not working. Not every routine works. Dog’s are different and what might work with one dog might not work with another.

Like Doggy Dan says in his online dog training program, you need to be the pack leader for your dog. A dog will either follow you or he’ll try to dominate you. It’s in their genes. Here’s a video of him talking about this exact problem:

So what do you do with the leash? Well everytime your dog jumps on you or on a guest step on the leash so that he cannot jump. At this point while your dog can see that he cannot jump you can can say the word “no” to help him make the association that this is something you do not want him to do.

Once your dog has calmed down reward his behavior, but only after he’s completely calm and has given up the urge to jump on you. That’s when you reward him.

I know this might sound a bit cruel but it’s not. Your dog is used to the leash and as long as there is no continuos tension on the leash, it won’t hurt  or bother him.

Is there a right age to start potty training your child?

when to start potty trainingA lot of parents are worried about this. When should they start potty training their child?

The actual truth is, that there is no right age for when you start toilet training your little one. There is a recommended age of 18 to 24 months, when you should think about teaching your child about the potty.

The age at which you start can have some influence in the training. For instance, if you’re potty training 2 year old girl it may seem easier than if your potty training a boy age 2 and 3. The thing is that girls have a “stay clean” attitude a lot earlier than boys.

Yes, boys don’t mind pooping in their pants while girls can’t stand it at a younger age.

But you need to realize that every child is different, some will be interested in the potty very early while others won’t show any readiness signs until almost 3 years old.

When you start potty training isn’t actually the biggest problem you need to worry about. What you need to do is once you see your toddler giving you signs that he or she is ready to start potty training, is to set a date and plan everything.

The more organized you are the easier potty training will be. You’ve probably heard about the 3-Day Potty Training method from Carol Cline. Well in order for that to work planning is key.

One of the first things you need to plan for is what are you going to use, a potty chair or a potty seat? If your child isn’t that tall yet go for a potty seat with ladder.

Another thing I tell parents to focus on is what type of rewards would get their child motivated the most. There are so many good ideas for toilet training rewards you can choose from. You’ve got reward charts and stickers, sweets, toys, songs, dances.

So when is the right age for your child to learn how to use the potty? He’s gonna “tell” you him self. Just watch out for the signs.
